Chinese video surveillance technology is cutting edge

China is perfecting video surveillance technology. I am not sure if this is a good or bad thing. One on had it may help curb criminals, on the other hand people should not be watched all the time, yet on the other hand there us no privacy in public spaces. When going to public areas we accept the fact that we may be photographed or filmed.

The next question, how did China develop this technology? When it comes to developing technology, communist nations have a long history of lagging behind capitalists nations. Chances are the Chinese firms that developed facial recognition may have stolen the technology from the United States. That is not saying they did, but the Chinese government has a history of stealing technology from American companies.

Also, I wonder how much of the development was funded by the Chinese government? The technology could assisit the Chinese government in cracking down on protestors.
