Accept some foods are out of season

If we want to fight manmade climate change, something we need to accept is certain foods that are out of season. How much of a carbon footprint do we leave by shipping fruits from one end of the world to another?

To address climate change, we should only eat locally grown fruits and veggies, with a bare minimum of imports.

Grow it local, can it, then eat the preserves through the winter months. After all, isn't that they way our ancestors did it?

The sad thing is that with modern access to so many varieties of plants that we could be growing more locally. I have grown tomatoes in 3 seasons of the year because I have different varieties in each of the 3 seasons. But the store sells only a couple types and just buys them from different places as the season changes.
